Today i stumbled to Cristobal’s Cobos blog by accident, although we had previously met in person several times, i don’t really read his blog daily… any ways i got there because his most recent post regarding enciclomedia, which i’m tired of saying i definitely don’t endorse. But to my surprise i found a very interesting topic which as opening statement declares:
Innovate is not synonym of working at MIT, innovate means to take risks. Rise your face and look forward. The only way to understand the present is by knowing the past and be willing to figure out what’s coming next.
Wise indeed. I would like to add some inspiration from Sir Ken Robinson:
We are trained to be afraid of making mistakes, we think of being wrong as something really bad and should be avoided. Our Children learn to be afraid of thinking and speaking up their minds. Thoughts are stigmatised and condemned to live inside of our minds, because of fear to be wrong.
People have to be prepared to be wrong! There is now way to innovate if we are afraid to be wrong. And that is why children are way much more creative, (and we kill their creativity) they are born creative, and our education system grows them out of their potential of creativity… It punishes mistakes…
How can we foster creativity if we don’t have diversity of ideas ?
How can we expect to create something different if we are afraid of thinking different?
Indeed innovating is about taking risks, mashing-up all those precious thoughts and ideas during synapses festival and have the will to do something different.
That or as they teach at my school, change the colour of the paper you deliver your homework…
you decide…
