MyMachine - Spocker with Matisse

I’ve at the Ungaid with the guys if “My Machine” and they have an incredible project that promotes creativity in Children.

Basically they go to schools and ask children to invent a machine, which afterwards will be designed a developed by collage students. Later Technical Students build the machine. Last year it reached 550 children, next year they will be 3 times more children.

What i love about this project is that brings creativity and play back to the classroom at all levels,

I spent some time looking at the ideas that children had, and you can see all kinds of fun ideas. From dresses that change colour depending on your mood to (my favorite) a Machine that scares away the ghosts designed by a 6 year old.

Of course the machine can detect different types of ghosts and scans your room for ghosts, and uses different types of strategies to scare away different types of ghosts.

Now, Technical and University students get graded by children based on how good they got their idea.

It matters not how much crazy or useful your machine is it can be built, not mattering a corporation wants to profit from it or not. It takes democratized innovation to children!

It represents a perfect example of how new generations generate value and operate their social dynamics, in distributed value generating networks coordinated thanks to ICT.

The entire projects is based in great values:

Cooperation Culture: The projects bring together not only students, from elementary schools and collage, but also they make companies commit to the projects by financing a 3rth of the sponsorhip in cash, a 3rth in species and and 3rd in staff time.

Respect: Because if a children has an idea, it is told that it can work, it doesnt matter how crazy / creative it can be.

The social media and citizen effect on mexican elections.

3636969858_73e7653e18_o

We are in the verge of creating the first publication, which covers the effects of applied social media in mexican elections.

As a preview of we will publish we like to share some words:

Citizen Movements are nothing new to politics, whether provoked or authentically emerged from organized citizens, supporters are actively taking active roles in delivering the message.

Such citizens, which collaborate for a common goal, can leverage a myriad set of tools, which “official institutions” can barely hope to imitate or copy. Mainly because of the costs of production and distribution.

Take for example images from a riot, or public social event, such as sports or elections. Take for example Iran’s Election and its riots, in which social media has taken a key factor for citizens to communicate worldwide their discomfort and government abuse. If such media would have been available in Mexico during the 68’s The People would have much less unanswered questions.

But how is social media currently affecting our local elections in México. Mass media is slowly losing its effect on populations, slowly that is in comparison to other countries (where telecommunication is cheap and ubiquitous).

As a preview to our article, we will cover among many other examples, the crowdsourcing exercise created by citizen movement SED: sociedad eduacion y democracia (http://sed.org.mx/) by democratizing a video production supporting tatiana clouthier, using low cost, distributed teams rather than a single and considerably more costly option (and with very variable results).

This and more topics we will cover in Join.org.mx next issue. Where will not only review examples the theory behind applied social media, but will apply it, by using a citizen movement to ver the local elections.

Jolicloud, OS for netbooks and cloudcomputing

jolicloud

This new operative system is actually making me rethink a lot of my (now obsolete)

conceptions of how an Operative System for Learning should look, behave, offer access to information and social interaction.
It is designed for net-books and cloud computing, with an “iphone-ish” approach to application launching, yet with an on demand application installer such as the wget or packet managers from Linux alle Debian style.
Most definitely , I will seriously look deeper to learn from then for when we have to design our own “edu-books” (or whatever we call them)
Also, for the next couple of years I will strongly focus my skills and knowledge
acquisition in industrial and interaction design for learning.
